Insurance and Fee Info

Fee for Non-Randonneurs-USA Members - For 2016, there is a $5 fee per brevet for riders who are not members of Randonneurs USA (RUSA). Riders can pay in cash or check - payable to Rocky Mountain Cycling Club - at the ride start.

Background - RUSA sanctions our randonneuring events. Their insurance setup has changed, as insurance for cycling has changed in general. RUSA has added this fee for non-RUSA members to defray their insurance and other costs. The $5 goes to RUSA.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Does this apply to Populaires? No, RUSA is waiving the fee for Populaires, as outreach to promote randonneuring.

Is there a fee if I am not after RUSA credit? Yes, you need to pay the fee to ride, for insurance reasons.

Can I join RUSA and avoid the fee? Yes, you may join RUSA any time up to and including the start of the event. You can join/renew online in advance, or pay by check at the brevet start.

If I join RUSA, do I still need to be a member of RMCC? Yes, your membership is required for the club's insurance. It also goes to cover the expenses of the randonneuring program.

Fortunately, this does not affect many riders. For those — many of whom have ridden our brevets for years — we hope you will consider joining RUSA and enjoy the benefits of membership, such as the ability to ride RUSA Permanents. If not, we hope you understand the basis for this fee, and will continue joining us on our events!
