Bo-Lar Boogie
15
starters and
14
finishers rode the Bo-Lar Boogie 200k. Mike Turek reports:
"Climbing makes you stronger, Winds just make you meaner."
"Kevin and Mark disappeared west; the rest of us paced chatted leisurely cycling over the
US-36 bike path towards Lyons. Matt received a call in Lyons, a brush fire in Rocky Flats threatened their house,
so he had to head home. Great news later that all was ok. Shortly after Lyons, the winds really picked up.
Heading west on CR12 we were clocking 9mph as a group.
It was nice to turn north, but we still were buffeted all the way to Masonville.
Concerns were raised about Kevin’s disc wheel and Debbie pushing through solo but both made it through safely.
After a Leisurely lunch stop at Sandy’s (great Ham, Egg and Cheese sandwiches and Burritos in the warmer)…
we experienced 'the reward' - coasting at 26mph to Johnstown.
I was thinking of a re-route to Kersey to finish 200k there “for safety reasons”. :-) .
At Johnstown, Vern jokingly predicted the winds would shift and die as we headed back….
Strangely he was correct. Turning right on 34 was rather pleasant…almost as pleasant as the Tahitian vanilla
ice cream I enjoyed in Hygiene. (Sorry guys, I know it cost our group a sub 9hr time…it was worth it).
"Wonderful to see Mark Lowe rejoining us for a Brevet after 2 years. Welcome back Mark :-)."
Thanks to Mike Turek for leading!

First Ever Paradise Valley Parcours - Populaire
9
starters and
9
finishers rode the Paradise Valley Parcours 100k - Populaire. Mike reports:
"Most paradise like weather for a January brevet in a long time. So nice to see a new face,
Jake, on our ride…and a couple of folks who were out on injury, Corinne and Dave.
It was a reunion for 4 of 5 Original Lanternes Rouge 2015 Flèche members… too bad Pascal is suffering in miserable 70F weather in
Marin County with SF Randos or we would have been complete.
"Two groups formed just north of Hygiene, (perhaps it was the large group of fast cyclists from Boulder
a few of us decided to follow for about 100 feet)… anyway, we rolled north on familiar roads,
occasionally detouring for some new scenery. We thought we were fast, but alas it was a tailwind
which greeted us as a headwind on the return. One nice part of out and backs is catching site of
the other group coming the other way. We also had a John Lee sighting but didn’t snap a picture in time.
"The usual Gang of Loveland Elk were completely unbothered by our passing, even posing here for an upclose picture.
The rest of the ride home with slight detours for scenery, was uneventful, except for Dave’s foray into single speed,
which delighted Beverly as she hung on his wheel. A few of us gathered at Fritz for a post ride celebration,
regaling the new kid of PBP stories and rides past."
