McVey was the first junior to get a “first bike” from
ACA through the new 2005 junior development program.
With the help of Sibex Sports, Redline, and Schwab Cycles
ACA has purchased some bicycles that are of entry-level quality for
racing. The program is designed to make bikes
affordable to kids just getting into the sport without having
to go to a discount house for a bike. The
bikes are dual purpose and can be used for Road and Cyclocross.
Kids get wheels for both disciplines with their bikes. Rich Visscher and Luke
Jeter (two ACA Mechanics) dedicated
a whole day to putting the bikes together. How
the Program Works: •
Bikes are for kids 8-18 years of age •
Junior must show need for financial assistance •
Sizes are limited and ACA may not have all sizes needed •
Junior must be an ACA member •
Junior must commit to riding/racing •
Cost is $200 with a $50 rebate when bicycle is brought back to ACA in good
working condition Parents
or caretakers can contact me to start the ball rolling. ACA
hopes this is a way to get kids that wouldn’t normally be able to afford a
“racing” bicycle right off
the bat and that this makes entry into the sport easier and more fun. Thanks for all who helped get this going. |
